In the 1880 Wayne, Noble Co., Indiana census Joseph age 39 born Ohio is listed as head with wife Mary J. age 29 born Ohio and children Clarence age 10 born Indiana, Cora age 6 born Indiana, Homer age 4 born Indiana, Erman age 2 born Indiana and Elmore age 8 months born Indiana. I believe Elmore to be Linus Elmer. Also listed is William Devoe age 27 born New York farmer-laborer.

Joseph married Mary Jane 'Jennie' ACTON, daughter of George Washington ACTON and Sarah Ann WALKER, on June 28, 1868 in Noble Co., Indiana. (Mary Jane 'Jennie' ACTON was born on July 27, 1850 in Morrow Co. Ohio or Maryland, died on November 24, 1911 in Noble Co., Kendallville, Indiana and was buried in Lake View Cemetery, Noble Co., Kendallville, Indiana.) The cause of her death was rheumatism, malaria and apoplexy.
