Lewis's family were pioneers to the Stephens Co. area. Lewis and Lillie lived on several farms in the Veal Creek community before moving into Graham.

Lewis married Lillie Pinkney GANN, daughter of Bayless Pinkney GANN and Laura Etta HUNT, in August 1907. (Lillie Pinkney GANN was born on February 13, 1892 in Stephens Co., Breckenridge, Texas, died in July 1955 and was buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Graham Texas.)
