Bayless Pinkney GANN

  General Notes:

Bayless and Laura purchased the Gann place, about two miles south of Veal Creek Cemetery. They paid $30 cash plus a wagon and team and a note for $280. Bayless was a farmer,also raised horses, and was active as a member of a local school
board. Records show her served the Harmony School(Bee Branch later) as a trustee in 1907. In 1909 Bayless purhased property on Duff Prairie and built a house. They soon sold this property and via a wagon and hack the family journeyed into
Louisiana for about three months. Earnest became extremely sick with a fever: Bayless sold everything, put the family on a train and returned to Stephens County. In 1911 they traveled to Port Lavaco, Texas, via wagon, paid $500 down on some
ground for farming. After a brief stay, they traveled to Tyler, Texas, visited Laura's family there, and then returned to Veal Creek. The old homeplace was occupied by kinfolks, so they lived in a half-dug-out in the canyon just south of Veal
Creek cemetery. In late 1912, the moved to Malvern, Arkansas. While in Arkansas, they journeyed to Florida via covered wagon, for a bried stay. They then returned to Tullo, Arkansas, sold out and returned to the Veal Creek community, living
briedly with the E.L. Cretsinger family(their olders daughter). They then rented a farm south of Ivan. In 1927 Bayless and Laura moved into Graham.

Bayless married Laura Etta HUNT, daughter of J.M. 'Dee' HUNT and Emily L. GOFORTH, on July 27, 1886 in Texas. (Laura Etta HUNT was born on March 22, 1869 in Alabama or Mississippi, died on June 17, 1941 in Stephens Co., Breckenridge, Texas and was buried in Veale Creek Cemetery, Stephens Co., Texas.)
