John Hoffman was a native of York county, Pennsylvania and his wife Elvina of Ohio. They were married in Ohio and came to Noble county, Indiana in 1854, and settled in Jefferson township, where John, passed away April 23, 1899. To John Hoffman and wife were born five sons and four daughters.
John Hoffman was the son of Adam Hoffman who was also a native of Pennsylvania, but ended his days in Ohio. John was reared to manhood in his native state, York county, Pennsylvania, and in Morrow county, Ohio. In the spring of 1853 John and his wife settled in Jefferson township on a farm. Mr Hoffman had been reared a wagonmaker, and at the time of his death was the owner of upward of six hundred acres of splendid land which he had improved with and excellent dwelling to correspond, and was classed among the most substantial agriculturists of Jefferson township. Farming had been his vocation ever since his coming to Noble county.
John married Elvina Mary WALKER, daughter of Christopher WALKER and Mary Magdalena FISSEL, on March 31, 1850 in Morrow Co., Ohio. (Elvina Mary WALKER was born on May 9, 1831, died on December 19, 1926 and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Indiana.)
